The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry is changing how dentists are taught. New technology allows preclinical dental students to fine-tune their eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity skills, and to learn the techniques and procedures theyll need to treat patients all without having a real patient present. Theyll learn faster and better, with greater precision and accuracy. The lab has the potential to revolutionize the way dental students learn. The combined equipment in the 11200 square foot clinic 100 patient simulators with a realistic oral cavity, flexible cheeks, and a full complement of teeth, plus modern operatory equipment and flat-screen monitors; a technology room and wet lab; and 20 virtual reality-based advanced student stations equipped with life-like mannequins, computers, cameras and LED-tracked drills (that measure a students tooth preparation in tenths of a millimeter) exists at no other BIG 10 dental school.

Statue Conversion: A Witch Transforms A Young Man Into A Statue With Her Magic. FP, MIP

A broom-riding witch, uses her black magic to transform a youth who was about to hit her over the head with a heavy wooden stick, into a motionless statue. He lets out a moan of imminent petrification (MIP), in this nice example of a forced petrification (FP), to show a statue conversion has just taken place. She knocks on the boy's forehead to prove he's a statue. He remains frozen in place, with the stick still raised over his head in the gesture of assault, until his girlfriend finds him in the witch's lair, and kisses him on the lips. Inspired by Rube Goldberg Machines

This room was constructed with the humor of Rube Goldberg cartoons in mind at the St. Louis City Museum. Developed organically, the room started with one exercycle on the bench and the thought, "What can this become?" From there, visual and comedic mechanics were added day by day to create a space that with the push of a button, the room would erupt with motion and activity. A line shaft and belt system from the Industrial Revolution was used to transmit power and action over the viewers head, encompassing them with movement and the challenge of deciphering what powers what. An umbrella opens and closes with the aid of cables and manikin hands, a cup floats and falls with the power of pneumatic pistons, a 3ft. wheel of feet kicks up opposing balancing beams, a leg and foot continue to 'kick the bucket' and a fireplace bellows that spins the pinwheel. The line shaft continues on the opposing side to spin a turn of the century shoe polisher and a wall of interconnected bicycle wheels. Shovels hang from the ceiling while being punched by boxing gloves and old dry cleaner racks play the xylophones. In an age of digital automation this purely mechanical machine was created by trial and error, with the driving thought "Maybe this will work." -Daniel Heggarty

Designed and Customized Mannequin Heads (the Basics)

These are the mannequin heads I improved for making and styling my wigs, hairpieces, and accessories (first time). Straight out the store, they are a little too small compared to the average adult head,, so I did my own adjusting. These look better than the plain ol' styrofoam heads, so if you are a fashionista or display your talent to others, this is a nice way to do it. They are also much more durable after the adjustments. Comparison of Mindflex Toy to EEG Research System

Professor Zhong Lin Lu ,Professor Psychology and Biomedical Engineering and William M. Keck Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Southern California, conducted this experiment to demonstrate how a wet towel creates an antenna to conduct ambient indoor electrical signals, thus simulating brainwave activity when using both a standard Electroencephalograph (EEG) machine and a Mattel Mindflex EEG toy. In this video, Professor Lu explains how the MindFlex toy can be influenced with a wet towel as input.EEG devices measure and amplify the very small voltages (differences in electrical potential) created by the functioning brain. Due to its designed sensitivities, an EEG device will also measure any small voltage present at its input, including electricity from the 60 Hz power grid, cellular signals, muscle induced electrical artifacts, etc. Dr. Lu's idea is that a wet towel in a normal interior office setting will pick up electrical noise in the environment, detecting small voltages that any EEG device will measure. An EEG signal is acquired in the MindFlex as input to algorithmic equations meant to estimate the user's mental state. Certain patterns in a normal EEG signal are correlated with certain mental states. The ball in the Mindflex game will rise when the mental state is achieved and the associated pattern is measured. Track # 5: Pour Some Sugar On Me "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a song by British hard rock band Def Leppard from their 1987 album Hysteria. It reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Persian Pokémon Fursuit Part 1 (The Making of)

My first attempt at making a partial fursuit, mainly for practice so I have experience before I make any complicated costumes. Certainly did not come out perfect, but I'm still pretty happy with the result. Not the worst first attempt ever (I know I say "attempted the foam base method", but that only made it to one slab of foam and I cut it wrong, so I gave-up on it, so I don't really count it as my first attempt. However, it was not my first attempt at making a tail). The manikin I used was horrifically disproportionate, so it was bulked up with foam which was duct-taped on. Yes, I know it's still not necessarily okay to use this song, but this video is non-profit, and is of no benefit to me other than just to display what I have created. Again, I am not a furry, humans are my favorite animal, I merely love costumes and think fursuits are awesome. I would definitely recommend distinctivefabric.com, I got many compliments on the softness of the fur. I used pillow stuffing to keep the tail's tip in a curl. Packed tightly, the pillow stuffing is quite stiff. The rest of the tail is stuffed with scrap bits of fabric and upholstery foam. I will certainly make another fursuit one day, but not any time soon. This suit debuted at Mobicon XIV (14), and will hopefully be worn at future conventions. Dissidia: Final Fantasy [Cecil vs. Manikin Golbez] SEMI-FAIL

Yep, it's another fail video from me. I restarted Cecil's storyline in Dissidia because I couldn't complete the final battle... and during my playthrough I decided I was going to get some of the items I missed due to DP or difficulty (Shell Armor, that's all I'm gonna' say...) The problem in this video, and the reason I call it a Semi-Fail is because for at least the first half of the video, I couldn't figure out how to dodge Golbez's "Nightglow" attack. I hadn't figured out the proper way to dodge, and therefore got thrown around like a rag doll. It's actually quite funny. Then I finally figure it out, and proceed to come back to win... and on top of that I fail at the EX Burst sequence. Oh yeah, it's also a semi-fail because... eh heh... Golbez is Lv3 compared to my Lv~12 Cecil. *head shake*
